    Deumer LGAB

Here's one you don't see very often! The two other Deumers I've seen weren't burnished but, this one has very nicely polished highlights! BONUS!

Based on the sellers pics, my hopes were not at all high, but I got a very pleasant surprise when I opened the package!

Special thanks to Nigel, the flying Dutchman and The Deutsche Bank of Rüdiger for their help in getting this one into my hands! Yet another fine example of WAF camaraderie! You guys ROCK!!!

You'll see in the last pic, the difference in finish when compared with S&L LGAB's. The Deumer is a little chrome like and somewhat glittery. This can be seen most clearly in the cloud area and on the reverse.

I let the pics explain the rest.

Hardware and then surrounded by S&L's. An early, thin pin example on the left and a very early, thick pin on the right.

As you can see, they certainly appear to have come straight out of the same die! It looks to me like another connection between S&L and another hersteller. It appears that Deumer likely bought the basic piece from S&L and applied their own finish and hardware. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the matter.

I'll be creating an LGAB reference thread in the upcoming days and will do a more thorough comparison. For now, enjoy!

          Hi Mike,

What a wonderful LGAB. The burnish on that piece just makes it really stand out. Great job to all the guys in getting this in your hands. As one of the recipients, I know what that feels like.
          Regards

              Hi Mike!!
Great piece, and a scarce one!! You dont see the Deumer LGAB everyday!!!
The finish is quite interesting, as you said, different to S&L, on some pieces the difference in finish between S&L and Deumer is not so noticeable, but this one more so, it reminds me of the differences in Ost's!!
You have the piece in hand Mike, and so are in the best position to judge, but i have to agree, looking at these pics, the Deumer appears to come from the same die as an S&L.....this is very interesting!!
The more pieces we see, the more links there appear to be between S&L and most of the other makers including Deumer, Souval, Assmann etc
It seems that S&L were at the center of a lot of 57 production, with their dies, parts, hardware, turning up on many makers pieces!
Really fine badge Mike, and a must for your collection, glad to be able to help!!!!

                  Thanks Nigel and Tom!

I'm quite happy with the piece.

I hope to be able to get some good pics put together later this week showing the similarities and differences in an LGAB reference thread. I only got the piece yesterday, so I need to do a much more thorough examination, but so far, they look extremely similar save the finish and hardware.

I appreciate the positive feedback gents!

                    What a great beauty, Mike

Sadly i can´t say who bought from the other , S&L from Deumer or the other way round but in the future we maybe can find out

BTW....is that the first Deumer LGAB we see here or are there others known in collections?

Nice addition Mike, great looking badge.

I am interested to know the fingerprints to say this is Deumer rather than an S&L piece. Looking very forward to your thread about these, will be some good reading for me...and maybe some others too.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Thanks Rüdiger! Your help made it possible!

Good point about who bought from who. My thoughts that Deumer bought from S&L are because the vast majority of LGAB's we see are S&L's, they are likely the main producer and as the Deumer's are so rarely seen they are the buyers, that is obviously, entirely speculation. I think it makes sense, but it certainly isn't air tight reasoning.

I know of two other Deumers. George L had one and another of our good WAF friends also has one.

                          Hi Tom,

It's always a pleasure when you drop by!

Perhaps it's overly simplistic reasoning on my part, but the hinge and pin style are unique to Deumer's 57er era badge production. I'll show two badges attributed to Deumer with the same hardware. One is the Heeres FJ badge featured in your book and the other is a GAB. Both have identical hardware to the LGAB featured in this thread.

Second, in most examples, the finish is not like S&L's silver finish. It's much more chrome like or perhaps "glittery" is a better term. I'll illustrate that in pics in the following post.

Finish comparisons - Deumer left / S&L right.

Sounds good and logical. But i have a nice piece on the way where it´s maybe the other way round ... S&L bought from Deumer ?!
I´ll show when it arrived and i made my studies
