I would think it would make for a better produced piece ? The 800 maked one I have shows no sign of being denazified. Tom
I am not sure why they didn't denazify the die, but I doubt that they could do it.
Sofar all dies without the swass look to me as "new" working dies where the part of the swass had been adjusted and the items that came out of the wartime dies have all been denazified.
I never saw any item where I think that it could come out of a modified wartime die.

I think that you have the same 800 marked KC as mine that is made from the "newer" 1957 dies with stippling on the place where the swass was.
I use "newer" because these wartime dies have IMO been used VERY short.
I will quote Nigel because I can't say it better:

Mike spotted the same die flaw too running along the bottom arm, this piece IMO should be the earliest 57 version that S&L produced, before switching to the new "true" 57 die, without swastika??

Here the comparisson with this cross with the version without swords.
That is my absolute favourite KC!
I think I mean my absolute favourite 57!

You are right!
But I actually meant to say that I didn't understand the sentence regarding the stipling:
(don't forget that I am Dutch)

"the stipling slope down on the left hand side centre"

I recieved the picture and now I do understand what mean: "on the kvk ws it appears to go further from the camera whereas on kvk wos its flat".

And although you are right based on the pictures, it really doesn't.
The angle of the crosses are different and my cheap camera has a distortion towards the edges.

Like I said, I am Dutch and learned another new word: "LOOPY".

I got to run.
Party tonight with sunny weather, many beers and many hamburgers from the BBQ.

But I will end with this picture and show off a litlle.

And the picture doesn't do it justice at all. But I think it still shows enough to understand why this is my absolute favourite 57!

Wow! All nice pieces, but the frosting on the RK KvK without Swords is quite different to the others!

It's really a beauty!

Is it the type with the swords sawn away?

RK KvK w/o swords use the "New" die's ?

Luud, do you know of any RK KvK w/o swords that used the "New" die's ?? So few of these were awarded during the war I can't see that there was much call to go to the expense of producing a new die ? What do you think? Thanks, Tom

Thanks guys,

Yes Mike, the swords are also cut off!

The version w/o swords is exactly the same as the version with swords.
They just cutted off the swords.
So they only had 1 die for both the War Merit KC's.

Most of the KC's are IMO made in the late sixties/seventies and I doubt that many of them were bought by veterans. There are a few for sale on a German auction, even in gold, but they are IMO modern made from the same 57 dies.

Photo in wear ?

Have any of you ever seen a photo of a 57 RK Kvk in wear ? I can only think of one and it's in Gordon Williamson's book on the War Merit Cross. I'll look later to see who the holder is in the photo. I sure would like to have one ! Tom

Now that is a great and absolut rare addition, Luud

Your examples are the only ones that i saw so far.
I agree with the denaz before finishing the badge and S&L did a very good job on these ones

Quality is even on the pics outstanding and i donĀ“t want to know how these ones look in hand
