It would also be interested to know if the backplate is magnetic.
My wide pins don't have a magnetic backplate while the thin pins do react have a magnetic backplate.

So get your CCC's out and see if we can find some trends from very early till late.

              ...and a early silver one.
This one has the big flaw next to the hinge and it NOT vaulted but straight, so IMO a very late early one.
These ones exist as vaulted ones which i believe are earlier than the straight ones. And of course the flaws are smaller or non flawed.

This is a great thread and I'm glad to be able to add to it!

I found some interesting things as I examined my CCC's.

The backplates are magnetic on my Silver and Bronze Heer CCC's, but the Golden CCC has a NON-magnetic backplate! All are nicely and highly vaulted with the finest of S&L burnished highlights!

                The weights are as follows:
                Bronze - 33.28g
                Silver - 32.97g
                Gold - 32.82g

It's getting dark, but here are a few current pics...

                  On to the Luftwaffe CCC's...

                  The weights are:
                  Bronze - 21.78
                  Silver - 21.15
                  Gold - 21.32

Only the hinge pins are magnetic on the Bronze and Gold. Of interest is that the entire coke bottle shaped pin on the silver IS magnetic!

Those that have seen it feel it could be from another maker than S&L as the oak leaves have very different die characteristics, as does the wreath and the center piece is soldered into place rather than being riveted.

All three are flat and not vaulted. All three have superb burnishing.

the weights are most interesting clearly the gold has lost some weight because its a different type of metal backing piece is everyones early bronzes the heaviest
                    nice pics mike

Whoa! You forgot about a clasp that looks like that?

Send it to me and THEN forget about it!

That's really a beauty Nigel! The frosting is SUPERB as is the burnishing! VERY nice CCC! One of the nicest I've seen!
