I know its a lot easier when you have the pieces in hand, no amount of photo's can beat that, but i try and explain things the best i can, non of this is 100% fact, it just what i see, and what it leads me to believe!!
If anytime you see something you think is wrong, something i've missed PLEASE feel free to correct me or add your own thoughts, like you, i'm learning as i go along!!!
@Pierce......Ha Ha no, its not an EK, i still dont think KVK's have the same appeal as an EK, but no-one seems to bothered about them much, they've got to be worth some study!!! Not enough variants though!!!

Heres a couple of pics of a late 70's/80's S&L KVK2, its the type with the artificial dark patina, which actually does give a quite attractive finish!
When you look closely at the cross, you can see numerous flaws, and the lack of quality finishing, with rough edges especially around the swords etc.
The photo of the edges of the cross show the true colour of the base metal, a much lighter glittery looking colour, which is a little cheap & nasty, they obviously coated the obverse and reverse of the cross with the dark patina, but did'nt bother around the edges!!

The finish does look pretty good. It almost looks like the final wash was put on then the sides filed. While it would be done this way though I can not understand.,

Hi Mike!
The finish on this later piece appears to have been applied to the obverse and reverse, but has'nt touched the sides or edges at all, its the same bare metal in all the nooks and crannies, inside of the sword blades and handles etc. not only on the outside edges!

I had a look thru the old threads yesterday, and apart from this one, there are also a couple of other identical S&L KVK2's with the dark bronze, laquer finish!
The dark, laquered finish on this piece looks to me to be the same as on the KVK that started this thread, this cross uses the later die, but without much flawing.
So i would think this one fits nicely inbetween the earlier die, laquered version, and the 2nd die un-laquered pale bronze version, with more flaws, that is most commonly found??
Hopefully i will have another piece or two to show soon(ish) that will also help our understanding of the S&L KVK2 variants and timeline.
