Hi guys!! Following a VERY long wait, heres the S&L KVK2 that Ray found (cheers Ray)
This is what i believe is a very early S&L, possibly the first variant??
It is a very similar design to the later ones we usually see, but it is actually from a different die, when compared closely, the differences can be seen between this and a later S&L!
Its a well made piece, quite thick and weighty, with a laquer finish, good details etc.
I'll show some pics of the KVK, and then we'll compare it with both the later S&L KVK2'S and with a Deumer......

Now its compare time!!!!
First, alongside a S&L from i guess the 60's, this is the type normally seen.
No laquer finish on the later one, multiple flaws, less crisp details etc. The basics are the same, but the pebbling reveals a different die!!
Also note the very different jump rings......

The early version is both thicker and heavier!!!
Early = 29g Later = 25g

And the early S&L compared with a Deumer from roughly the same date.
The larger size central disc on the Deumer can be seen!
Deumer is also laquered, but has a lighter bronze colour.......

Finish with a closer look at the early S&L jump ring or supension loop. thick, like a Deumer, but squarer in shape, quite unusual!!

No better way to compare medals then with side by side shots like these, the differences are very notable this way.

It's the one I mentioned in Nigel's earlier KVK thread that I thought was a Deumer because of the jump ring and the overall high quality of the piece. It looks even better now than it did on the dealers website.

Normally i only look at the suspension loop to see if early or later but i have never compared the colour.

Unfortunately, just to confuse us, S&L started applying an artificial darkener to KVK2's, in the late period, maybe late 70's and after!
The late pieces dont have the quality of this one, and on the edges of the cross, the metal is untreated showing the glittery base metal!!
I'll show some pics of a later KVK2, just to show what i mean, but i dont think any of us would be fooled by the later ones!!
