Fantastic and nicely displayed group, Luud!

If S&L is the maker of this badge that it had to have used a wartime die because there is one distinct difference between this one and a "normal" 57er of S&L.
The feature is the number of dots on top.
Yours has 5 dots while a standard 57er has only 4.
Check here on the first pic of this thread: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=586392
Mike was so friendly to indicate it with a circle.

I'm not dismissing S&L as a possible maker still there are a few things i can't figure out...

First of all the setup: i've never seen this kind of setup on other S&L badges and it reminds us very much to the wartime maker 30. Do we know of 57ers badges with the same type of hinge and catch?

Let's assume this is a denazified badge:
would it be possible to do it so good? And afterwards they had to have refinished it i assume who would have done that?

For me these a few questions i can't answer for the moment but maybe somebody else can.
Be it as it may for the moment this one is another one on my 57er mysterylist and i'll sure keep my eyes open for similar set up and design on 57ers.

    Best regards

interesting thoughts guys, a couple of points i was going to mention, and now finally will......
Its very interesting i think, that the badge has been de-nazified, and then gilded or maybe re-gilded, and that the gold finish appears to match S&L 's own factory finish!!!
The characteristics of the badge do seem to match Stijn's "30", but like Luud, i'm no WB expert, but if it is a wartime "30", did S&L do "re-finishes" on wartime badges???? Fascinating stuff!!!!

        Thanks Tom,

I know you love CCC's. And that you like yours wich could be his twin.
I made some better pictures of it.
He was awarded the CCC gold at 28.04.1944 after 54 close combat days.

        Thanks for the compliment Stijn.

But because I know almost "0" about wb's, I just putted the cross in the wb section and see if they can tell us what we see here.

Although he hardware looks the same as the picture I posted in post 15.
I realize that I wrongly said it is marked with PKZ number 4. I should have said LDO number L/16.
I am not sure what that wb is but I saved that picture a few years ago from the WAF. I cannot finf the thread anymore but when I remember it correct, it was determined as a wartime S&L.

It sure is a mystery, so that is also a reason that I posted it in the first place and see if others had other thoughts than mine.

But becauze the finish is identical to the very earliest 57 S&L's, I cannot put another logical maker to this wb.
And S&L experimented a lot with wartime stuff in the very early days.

I think that is the main important thin to find out.
