    What a load of rubbish

Just seen this on ebay the cross seems to be ok in my opinion but in the write up he is claiming that only one maker was authorised to manufacture 57 awards

"Made to comply with the new German laws of 1957 Without Banned Nazi Swastika, instead showing the history revised Oak Leaf. Awarded to German WW2 combat Veterans' who were entitled to wear one of Germany's highest WW2 Gallantry decorations for acts of Gallantry in in the face of the enemy, combat on the battlefields of WW2.

This type of German Order was re-awarded without the Swastika to high ranking German Officers who served in WW2 and then continued their military careers in the newly formed post WW2 German (Bundeswehr) Federal Defense Force which was formed in the 1950's, now again proudly wearing these German Gallantry Orders on their military tunics, serving with allied NATO forces in the Cold War against the then Soviet Union. Also worn by veterans' to their once yearly unit Kriegs Kameraden reunions.

"Made by the only ever authorized German Government manufacturer Steinhauer&Lück, Lüdenscheid Germany, the only German manufacturer that has a licence to make all of Germany's official national decorations. It is 100% Authentic. If it is not made by Steinhauer & Lueck in Germany then it is just a worthless copy, there are so many one piece cheap copies for sale worldwide, so please be careful and only buy a guaranteed original that actually has a real collector's value and will be a fantastic investment to your collection."

Good points made, however just to throw a spanner in the works, any 57 version of any TR decoration is not and was not an "Official" government award, These pieces were and still are merely de-nazified examples of their war-time equivalents and carry no "Official"recognition as such, they were not awarded by any post war government. Anyone, maunfacturer, retailer or such like could make and sell these to anyone who wanted to buy one.

Many of the late 1950/ early 1960 pieces were made from original parts by original manufacturers and as such may carry a certain "Kudos" with collectors however in truth they are, in my opinion copies of what went before, (I have several in my own collection). S & L may well be an "Authorised" manufacturer of Awards to the Bundesrepublic but those would only be current federal awards. This argument as to the status of 57 pieces has been discussed in numerous other threads

it is the only 1957 german cross in gold authorized by the german federal government for wear by it's entitled ww2 german veteran's.

Hi gaz, don't quite get your point, a COA from the director of S&L merely confirms that it was/may have been made by them. I would like to see any official confirmation from the federal german government that S & L were the only officially sanctioned and authorized manufacturers of post war TR decs. Similarly are S& L the only "Official" makers of the 1957 RK/EKI/EKII?, if so what were Otto Schickle and others doing when they made theirs?

        regards

        Alex

I'd agree that S&L was certainly not the only maker of 57's. The piece in the ad is surely one I wouldn't want in my collection. Just my .02 worth.

There were several makers of the 1957 decorations in the 1950s and 1960s. Today it is only St&L (of the wartime makers) that can still offer an official range of the 1957 decorations.

Hi Peter, thanks for the info, the only word that bothers me is"Official", that suggests that they are government sanctioned as in "Being a government awarded decoration". As these are not official post-war government issued awards and never were, how can they be official? as I understand it, after the war, when these were allowed to be worn again in De-nazed versions, anyone who wanted to could make them, the government merely allowed their wear without the swaz

              perhaps I'm wrong

              regards

It is as i say. Neither Deumer, Deschler, Assmann, Souval, Godet or any other of the wartime manufacturers are known to have a complete range of 1957 decorations today. Only St&L can today offer a complete range of the legal 1957 decorations. Anything else, other than from St&L, will very likely be from obscure individuals who usually flood the market with Third Reich fakes.

Yes anyone can make these today as can be seen at Ebay every week, were soft metals is dipped in paint and sold as vintage 1957 decorations.

That eBay seller has been at it for some time. Check how many feedbacks left for him and 100% positive too. Sad, but true.

I believe we all know them on eBay and we know the stuff isn't good at all.
In their eyes, they are selling good items, but in the end they are "legally" ripping people off ....
