    DKiG - Good or No?

To those knowledgable in DKiG's. I would like to hear if you approve of this award and if so, is the asking price of 125 GBP's a good deal? Looks like a late 60's or 70's piece. Is that correct?

Thanks in advance for you help!

I would pass for that amount of money. It looks to be a 1970s-1990s. The early models will have a coke bottle pin, not a straight one. Save your money

        Thanks Brien,

Take a look at this one: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...&highlight=DKG

It has a similar pin (not coke bottle style) to the one I posted, that Peter says had a purchase date of 1962.

Maybe Peter or someone else could give a better determination on this one. With the amount of money these are starting to go for, I personaly wouldt buy a straight pinned one. For me that is the easist way of telling if it's worth a further look. THe amount of junk and fake pieces floating around makes me think twice. I'd rather pass on a deal (there will ALWAYS be another) than to plunk large amounts on fake or inferior items. Just my humble opinion.

            Mike.
"Coca Cola bottle" shaped pins were the first needles to be used. Shortly after, perhaps less than a year was needles with a more straight shape used. You have to look at other features.

            - Is it struck by dietools or casted?
            - Is the red color under the wreath enamel or paint?

Cast and red paint is the same as being of a modern production. The cross you show is a modern one. Not vintage around 1960.

              Hello

As has been stated, this DK is of later production. Another area to look when determining an approximate age is the hinge.

              Regards
              David

this doesnt look like an early piece, more likely 80s, these 57 pieces are rising in price quickly, its not the nicest example you could buy, but its not the worst either, if youve got £150 spare and want it.... get it!!!!

Thank you all! This forum is a wonderful resource. I have learned a great deal in a short time.

I definitely want earlier made pieces in my collection, but as has been stated, the prices are quickly making nice pieces difficult for the average collector, like me, to purchase.

Again, thank you all for the invaluable input.

                  Mike

If any of you are aware of a nice, early DKiG for sale and you don't want it for your own collection, please let me know!

                    Thanks Peter,

I knew there were other areas to look at, but couldn't quite spit them out.

How about this one? It's pretty "salty" looking, but appears to be enamel and die struck.

It's supposedly marked "21" on the pin.

Hi Mike, welcome aboard! Sorry to report but both are suited for the trash bin, or use em as fishing lures/weights.

Not good at all, and do not let that fake patina fool you. It is manufactured by those who usually create low quality fakes of Third Reich decorations.
