    German Cross in Silver

    Hello all,

I can't afford a pre war german cross, so a 57 cross just have to do the job for the moment...

The thing is, I have no idea about these 57's so I would LOVED to hear some opinions about this cross, maker, time when produced.... just some info would be very nice

My first thoughts when I got this was the weight, it's very heavy, (I'm an EK guy so I'm not used to these crosses) and I was very surprised when I saw the beautiful details, since this is probably not a very old cross... I think...

Anyway, late or early production, it's very nice and I will keep it.

Hope to hear some opinions about this

    Best regards

          Hi,
There are two things I notice about your cross. One is that the starburst is painted grey and not silver,The other is how the arms of the KVK on the left overlap the wreath. Not a good sign IMO/

            ouch... is it a fake?

what about the back side... is this a bad cross and not even a "real" 57 issue cross?

I bought it from estand and the seller told me it was of later production...

              Hi,
I own a late production DKiG by S&L and the quality is still there.Do a search on this Forum for these crosses and compair them with yours.
              Cheers

                  Hello

A strange one this. The starburst in the grey colour isn't as I would expect it - in terms of the actual colour nor it's glossy appearance. The colour certainly doesn't match anything that I have seen on other 57 DKs, and really does look as if someone has painted it with model paint. To assist I will post a few photos of 57 starbursts to illustrate the colours that may be encountered.

As Franco notes, the KVK in the centre isn't normally seen overlapping onto the wreath.

My opinion, and of course this is only my personal opinion, is that this isn;t a piece that I would want in my collection. That isn't to say it's fake, as technically there are no fake 57 items. There are early, mid, late and modern production pieces, (these terms have been developed by collectors in an attempt to put some sort of time frame on the 57 items), and I would suggest that your's is a (very) modern item.

                  Regards
                  David

It is a modern version from St&L. It has the same type of rivets as on the 25 PAB posted by Anton. The hardware on this one is exactly as your gold grade. Again note the thin paint under the wreath. Vintage crosses from the 1950's and 1960's has thick enamel there just as the wartime crosses have.

Excellent setup showing the various starburst finishes.

Thank you very much David for the pictures. A very nice setup there

The starbursts on this cross is very different compared to the gold cross, thats so true. Its grey... The cross itself is actually quite nice and hearing it's a S&L produced cross and not something from Latvia or something like that is a great relief...

The starburst on the gold cross is black with a nice blue ish color, and it is a fantastic piece. Wish the silver had that as well, but what can I do about it ehh

                            Thanks David and Peter
