    1957 Ek Ii

    Hello everyone,

    I have one question. I want to buy 1957 model EK II (actually also EK I and German Cross in Gold) but what would be a prox. price level at the moment, regarding this item? Maybe someone have one for sale here at the moment?

    As a very rough guide I would expect to pay about £30/£40 for an EK2, £50/£60 for an EK1 and between £120/£160 for a DK. These guide prices are for an early manufacture cross in good to reasonable condition and not one of the recently made types. Other members might chip in with some different opinions but I hope this has helped!

      Thank you very much Adrian! Its gives some picture already. I just got one 1957 RK with oaks to my collection, but plan is to get EK-s as well in the future. So, I hope to get some information before buying them .

        Based on prices that I have seen here in the UK and Europe, I'd broadly agree with Adrians guide price range. What I would say is that by early manufacture I assume for these prices Adrian is talking about ones made in the first ten years, but not the really early ones made virtually entirely out of left over wartime parts. For these I'd expect to pay slightly more, for example an EK1 using wartime frame, back, pin, hinge etc might go for £55 - £70.

          One of the best places for information on the 57 items is here in this section of the forum. That said, I've just got, from Amazon in Germany, (www.amazon.de), a book which shows the backs and fronts of most, but not all, of Germanys medals and awards from 1871 to date. In particular, as well as showing Third Reich awards, it also shows their 1957 re-issue versions. Some of the 57 items shown are early pieces, the odd one is of very early manufacturer, (see the DKiS on one of the shots I've posted), and some appear to be of mid manufacture.

          Although the book is in German this isn't an issue as it isn't intended as a text book - and as such there is no text - rather it is an easy pocket sized quick reference book. Again, it shows illustrative examples but not every makers variation. Guide prices are shown, but bear in mind that the book was published last year and will have been in the making for some before that, so the prices can't be relied upon to much.

          However, for €19.90 I think it's a worthwhile quick reference guide to what an award should look like - both back and front. For more in depth knowledge and detail on German awards you books by the likes of Vernon Bowen, Gordon Williamson, John R Angolia, Stephen Previtaria and so on.

                Thanks David for your great help! I will try to get similar book as well. I think before buying anything more expencive, I must study and be sure, what i go for. And German language is even better. Actually thats the language, what I studied in school, not english. But I had been forgot a lot because I didnt had chance for practise a years.

                  Yes, my figures were based on the crosses made in the first 10 years. I agree with David, if you find an example using wartime parts expect to pay slightly more unless you get lucky!
