New 57 Arrivals - General Assault Badge 200

    Hello

I've just received some more 57 items for my collection. Here is a General Assault Badge for 200 engagements. I'm given to understand that, although produced as part of the 1957 re-issue awards and badges, none of this class of badge was actually issued during WW2. I have heard tell that there are (were) WW2 veterans who claimed to have been told that they were to be awarded this badge towards the end of WW2 but never given the award - hence why this badge was produced from 1957. How much, if any, truth there is in this story I don't know.

As usual, any comments or observations welcome.

    Regards
    David

Not sure if they'd have such demand to make a '200' GAB considering most guys didn't make it that long, and fewer had a need for a 1957 version. Just a thought.

          Why not 500?
This badge officially does not exist, like Lappland shield.... In the appendix to the law of 1957 there are figures of all official signs, this sign there is not present......
Look on Beilage zum Bundesanzeiger Nr.41 vom 28.Februar 1958....

            Hello

As I pointed out in my first post on this thread, there are no recorded examples of this numbered award during WW2. Nonetheless, the companies manufacturing the 57 awards, e.g. S&L, Assmann etc, for whatever reason, did produce these. As I have already stated, there are stories around as to why these were produced. What truth, if any there is in the stories, I don't know. However, all reference books, (which admittedly aren't many), that cover the 57 re-issue items show and list these, with the note that the GAB wasn't issued in WW2 with '200', but that despite this these were.

Anyone else have a view on these ?

            Regards
            David

            Edit:
Philips, I have tried finding the Beilage zum Bundesanzeiger Nr.41 vom 28.Februar 1958 without success. Could you please either post the text of it on here or provide a link to it please. Thanks.
