    OLS S&L

    Hello Guys,

I found this OLS set on a early 800 marked Souval Knights cross. is it correct that this is a early S&L product ? The OLS is 800 marked.

    Thanks alot!

Is it possible to get a really good close-up of the right hand side of the reverse?

Looks like a nice set to me, should be quite early, there appears to be no sign of the 3rd main flaw, remains of finish looks good, leaf edges nicely cut out etc.
Seems to have the small "dot" flaw on the reverse, and are those some other letters or something near the "800" mark??

Not the best, but here are some better pictures of the backside.

Can't tell much on the back. Were there other marks on the right side?

Looks like a nice early set. I have a theory (which is unproven) that the dies were put into storage after the war for a while and then, when put back into use, were not properly cleaned, so the obverse shows the famous large "vein flaw" on the right side. S&L also, at some point after the war, switched reverse dies and there are telltale characteristics, including diagonal lines (which look like scratches, but appear uniformly on multiple pieces).

It looks very nice however as many others have noticed, there seems to be some marks on the left rear side below the 800 mark. What are they? They do not appear to be flaws but actual lettering or numbers.

In person I see those marks, but its so small, I don't think its lettering or numbers. Not properly cleaned dies as mentioned above seems to be more logical.

Souval Oakleaves look way different in design:

The early three piece Souvals do look very like the piece being discussed, but it is definitely an S&L. The earlier Souval OLS are beautiful too.
