    PAB "25"... early '57 vs Late '57

    Guys,

A little confused as to what constitutes a late and or early PAB

    Can you help?

Here is a PAB that Jamie Cross says is early and one from Detlev that, well he does not specify what period its from. Can you first tell me whether in your opinion Jamie's one is indeed early and what period Detlev's one is?

    Jamie's:

    Detlev's:

What makes you assume that these are from a different period? Looks like made within the same WEEK to me.

Right you probably are Frank, that's why I'm trying to work out why Jamie is Charing 60 pounds for his one and Detlev 30 euro!

A reasonable assumption (if Jamie isn't completely off his tree : is that his one is an early one and Detlev's is a late one...but if not...his loss

          Hi ,

I would say that they are both late issue , i,ve seen an early bronze numbered pab that had a very nice matt chocolate brown finish just like the WW2 issues . Also the early silver numbered pab have a great frosted finish on the wreaths .

Well, I have few of those I bought in the 1970's and they look exactly the same to both of them pictured below. Anything form 1957 should have MM if it was made for a veteran - correct me if I am wrong.
As for the price I dont think 60 pounds is too much. They are nice looking badges and well made IMO for 1957 badges. I thisnk it is just a matter of time when we will be paying a lot more then 30 Euros or 60 pounds.

              Hello Thomas ,

What do you mean by MM , maker marked ? If so then no . Nearly all the veteran aquired pieces i have and early pieces are unmarked . In 1957 pieces it is usually the exception than the rule to get a maker marked piece especially with the war badges . It is usually the EK,s that are maker marked . Yes you can get maker marked pieces i,m not saying that you can't but of what i,ve seen over the years it,s about 70-80% unmarked to 20-30% marked .

Also i have never seen a maker marked numbered badge , be it a general , luftwaffe or PAB i would love to see one though i never say never now on 1957 pieces as always something usually springs up that surprises me .

I think £60 is a little high most other dealers sell the 25 & 50 numbered for around the £35-40 mark although if it was a 75 or 100 i think it would be right .

I agree it won't be long before we are paying those prices and more , i have noticed a strong increase in prices on early pieces and ribbon/medal bars over the last couple of years .

              Regards

              Grant

I'd have to agree with grant there Thomas, never EVER seen a MM myself on ANY war badge.

I've got a maker marked 1957 Assmann Glider Pilots badge and a maker maked S+L EK1 clasp.

                    Hi Guys,
Sorry for not replying right away. I have MM Pilot's badge and I have seen other 57 badges with MM. I wish somone could suggest good reading for 1957 so we all can be more educated as for to look for and how to handle MM issue. Maybe someone can come up with a 1957 catalog or is it too early to even consider ?
My info regarding MM was based on some reading I got from European collector back in the 80'ties , I think.
I do collect 57 badges and I will continue since IMO it is just a matter of time when they value will go up.
Thank you for all of your input!
                    Thomas
