      Hello,
This is a good question indeed, I have mixed feelings about this lot and I am effraid it's not a grouping but put together items to trick some buyer. Is it for sale or coming from a book?

Pictures are bad but I don't like the dagger, seems chineese fake to me, far from what a general ça afford. The cherry flower is ugly and the crossed flags on the habaki often rhymes with modern fake. This symbol did exist, but the design is way sharper on original examples. And being an IJA general would he needed a dagger for an IJN officer? Then the sword hanger, I am not even sure this model existed, everyones I saw where on ebay from China ...

Tobaco, medals, scroll with Showa Emperor and wife are original (not sure about the colorful medal though, betters Pictures would be needed) but rather common items you could find in almost every soldiers locker and even know in japanese flea markets.

I do love the smoking pipe and pocket watch by themselves but won't bet my hand they belonged to a japanese general. I can't tell about the lighter with airborn symbol, too easy to fake. I could do it, and I don't call myself handy...

IMO stay away, I will not be comfortable with it in my collection. Hope someone could assist any further.

      Cheers,
      Mathieu.

+1 to what Mathieu says. I wouldn't be interested either.

The pipe is lovely, meerschaum with an amber stem (from the pics at least. Any pics of him smoking it?). The watch is American made by the Elgin Watch Company (I'm wondering why it isn't a Seiko or something made nationally) the kizeru (sp?) pipe is poor quality and common, just to mention a couple of items. The General's name is poor quality engraving that appears on too many common items.

Just my thoughts, since you ask.

Thank you Rod, I agree about the engraving, thé kanji for seki "関" is unbalanced on every item and must came from the same quicky stamp. If I noticed it, I can't imagine a Japanese will support it. This kanji is better engraved even on the worse showato I have seen.

Yeah, I cannot imagine anyone stamping his name on each item. Huge red flag. Looks like the seller is trying too hard to convince buyers of the provenance. Lots of common stuff in the group, as stated above.

Would have to agree with this. The material is all period, but the attribution is very doubtful.
