    chippy style mei

I was just looking at a photo of a tang sent to me by a gentleman who has a few sword parts he may consider selling Unfortunately I am not very good with kanji apart from basic numbers and a few basic characters I was wondering if I could have some help with translation. One of the characters looks similar to one found on the good luck flags.??Any help appreciated.Regards,Geoff

        Agreed, from Gifu.

You can find an example in Slough's, page 85. Rikugun Jumei Tosho. Made medium to high grade Showato and medium grade gendaito.
        Hawley's ref: KIY 364,365. Nihonto Meikan NMK-218.
Sometimes found with the "tan" stamp (forged). Might be a half decent blade?

Thank you for the additional information Beater Unfortunately the photos would be too painful to post I was informed it was broken when as a child his brother used it to chop down a tree. The saya was all dented in from "sword fighting" and the tsuka was gone to time. Cant win them all.... Regards,Geoff
