Bunkyū san nen ni-gatsu kichi-nichi Kawai Yutaka Yomochi no tame
A Lucky Day in February 1863 Kawai Yutaka & Yomochi's cost/benefit/make.

Usually 之為 / の為 [no tame] means for the benefit of, or the sake of. I think in this case the meaning can expand. Here are other meanings of 為: advantage; as a result of; be of use; benefit; change; cost; do; good; make; practice; reach to; serve as; try; welfare.

An interesting mei listing who the blade was made for and the sponsor who paid for the piece. It is not unusual to find such inscriptions on swords from the Late Edo Period.
