Unusual Map Style Case

Bought this pouch a while back. It resembles a map case but I suspect it has a specific purpose & is cavalry related. Any opinions or help is greatly appreciated

I don't know how it is supposed to be used, but cavalry seems to be be correct. Your bag says "Gun, carry bag 1" and here is "Saddle, carry bag 3"

Thanks Nick & Guy. Still can't figure out the purposes of these. I think I saw another years ago that had different cavalry related printed kanji. The example Nick posted has a rubberized closure strap
