Small Japanese lot from a US 503 PIR member

Hello forum..

I bought this lot a couple days ago from someone who walked into a local gun show.

It appears this 503 Paratrooper jumped at Corregidor when MacArthur was taking back the "Rock."

I assume he found these items there, or along the way. He was likely stationed or trained in Australia too.

There is a neat looking Japanese made dog tag of some kind. The rank is moth eaten, but it appears it was made from a magazine cut out, and had cloth stitched over it to make the id tag?

Also, a Japanese leather made sewing kit? Needles are rusty. Various sheets of paper stapled together of songs and poems about the war, etc.

According to the net, this veteran was born in 1916 and died in 1985.

I double-checked the 503d roster. PFC Eggert, Wilbur E. was in 3rd Bn, Co. G.

1st Bn had line companies A, B, C
2nd Bn had line companies D, E, F
3rd Bn had line companies G, H, I


I was in A/2/503 -- but that in 1980 just six years after they lost their jump status.

The Anchor tab with three bars would be his rank insignia.


The belt buckle was in commemoration of being in Yokohama. I cannot read the kanji on the top line except for the first three and last two: Showa 8.... kinen. So that would be 1933

The rank is senior private. I cannot make out what tactical symbol is on the top; I did not see it listed here.

I don't think it's a tactical symbol Guy, more likely a 'small unit' insignia whose significance has been lost with time.
