First time I saw a GI made flag that says Forever defeated in Military Fortune at the top. The rest, if true to the spirit of the creator of this flag, should be translated like Sushi, Sukiyaki, Rahmen, Tsunami, Typhoon, Kimono, Ichiban

I think I just received an education. Let me know if this sounds right.

                1. This is not a Japanese produced WWII item.
                2. This is a WWII known item produced by the USN Seabees.

Does this have any monetary value to a collector ?

                Thanks,

                Pat

p.s. - thanks for the great information

Could it be from a Japanese American to play with the motto?

                    Nick,

Are you saying that the literal translation of some of the words are "Sushi, Sukiyaki, Rahmen, Tsunami, Typhoon, Kimono, Ichiban" ?

                    Thanks,

The quality of the seal makes me think it is fake as well:
                        防衛司
                        令部の印

                        Bōei Shi
                        rei-bu no In

                        [Bōei Shirei-bu no In]
                        Defense Headquarters Seal

I think Nick was saying there were just common Japanese words thrown about. Here are the ones I could make out. The translator certainly had a sense of humor!!

                          Top
                          武運長敗
                          Buun Chō Hai
                          Fortunes of War Failure

                          The "official seal"
                          防衛司
                          令部の印

                          Bōei Shirei-bu no In
                          Defense HQ Seal

                          Bottom, far right:
                          東津日本
                          Higashish!tsu Nippon
["Eastport" ... a real name], Japan
sh!tsu means ferry, port, harbor, haven

                          Center:

                          Gun
                          Military

                          Left:
                          昭和十九年

                          Shōwa jū kyū-nen
                          Shōwa 19 Year [1944]

                          正式投降
                          Seishiki Tōkō
                          Formal Surrender
But the artist malformed and added an extra stroke in

Americans won't know the difference, so they just wrote gibberish that looks Japanese. Some words like surrender, orient, Japan, army can be recognized, as they must have copied from something like flyers urging surrender. The stamp is a clear fake, too, as the words are cut in the wrong place, not following the Japanese word-wrap rules.久長運武 was originally written at the top, but someone later converted the leftmost character to look like 敗 meaning defeat.

I think that these flags will start to have a collector following in their own right if not already. There are variations out there and that is desirable in collecting. Granted they are not valued as highly as legit. signed flags, I think they will come into their own eventually.
