IJN Summer Naval Shirt

Have had these two naval shirts for a little while now. I find the Naval uniforms/clothing items very interesting.

First shirt is a nice Naval Tropical shirt. I have seen mostly officers wearing this shirt in photo. Button are made from what seems like nice ivory.

2nd shirt is very interesting. Seems to resemble the sailors top(blue and white Donald duck tunic). But I believe this is more of a work tunic. Interesting to note is the 2 breast pockets are on the inside instead of the outside.

I was wondering if anybody could lend a hand on the kanji inside both these shirts. Id appreciate it greatly.

Former Owners' Names

The first shirt belongs to someone named Ito

搭 伊藤
搭= board; equip. Perhaps it means "Ito's stuff"?




The second seaman's jacket belonged to Suzuki Munehiro of Kure
鈴木宗弘

I cannot find the third kanji (represented by O) of his unit:
呉二〇主八三二
Kure 2 [?] Shuu 832
The missing kanji looks similar to 禰 [ancestral shrine], but I cannot find the exact kanji in my Nelson's Kanji Dictionary.

Looks like 補主 (hoshu) to me. 補 usually means auxiliary. However, I am not sure what the compound means. It is probably an abbreviation of some position.

I think 主 as in 主計 (Syukei) - Accountants

The position color of the rank tabs would be in white.

Yes! That's it .... 補 why can I not find Ho in the online [kanji by radical] and Nelson's dictionary??? Hmmmm .... when I paste into the online dictionary it comes up right away .... but not when I "build" the kanji using radicals.

Would I be right in my assumption that the 2nd shirt would be a work shirt?
Interestingly enough there are loops inside the waist area for a belt. I've never seen belt loops on the inside of a Japanese shirt before.
