Picked this sword up a few weeks ago and was told the red painted scabbard were for landing forces? The paint is over the normal paint you see on the scabbard. The numbers match and it looks great in the case. Can anybody tell me if the red scabbard is landing forces? Thanks for any help i can get.

Hi Nole,
That's an authentic Type 95 IJA NCO sword with aluminum tsuka, top latch and what appears to be the thicker (11mm) brass tsuba. Maker is Gifu for the Nagoya Arsenal under Kokura administration.
I agree with gunto that nothing about the color identifies it as anything more than a standard Army NCO sword.
The red paint does appear to have age but there is nothing about it that I am able to see to date the application. My belief is that it has been post war applied but only because I've never seen nor heard of any such color being applied during the war nor can I think of a reason why it would be. Regardless it's a nice piece.
Regards,
Stu
