IJA Havlock Field Cap Burma Bringback -Translation Help

Greetings everybody . Hope all is well.

Here is a neat bringback that was brought back by a British Artillery Veteran who fought in China Burma theatre. It's a nice honest original example. Havlock is missing 2 hooks and the the 2 hooks left are very rusty and thin now. Havlock belongs to this field cap judging from the "stains" that are alike on the havlock and the cap. Inside of the cap still retains the lining but the mft stamps are faded and not it is not possibly to see a clear date on the mft stamp.

What has always had me curious is the writing in hand on the havlock corner.
My assumption would be the soldiers name? My opinion. Would anybody be able to lend a hand in reading what is there written on the havlock? Id greatly appreciate anyhelp possible with this. Thank you.

      Hi,

That' s a nice original piece.

I can only make out some characters:

      Far right

? のち (No Chi) don't know what's that about

      Center top to bottom

九砲一分隊 (Kyuu Hou Ichi Buntai) - 9th Artillery 1st Squad

      Far left

      久米- KumĂ© (Last name)

      Regards,
      Taka

        Great cap and havelock!

Is the havelock stitched to the cap by the chinstrap buttons?

        Regards

Taka-San thank you very much with the translation help I will attempt to research the 9th artillery tonight .

And thank you everyone for the positive remarks .

Currently at work now but once I get home I will try to locate any stands/markings on havelock and also will see how the havlock is attached.

                    Thanks again 👍

Got a chance to take a look after work. No additional stampings or markings from what I can see on the havlock.

Took a closer look at how the havlock is attached near the front hook on each side. It seems that there is one tiny piece of old string that holds the havlock into place. This does not look like something don't recently as it has the red stain on part of the string. Not sure if this stitching was done by the ija soldier or the veteran when bringing it home as a souvenier to keep it attatched.

Also something I noticed was the width of each section of havlock. I never really noticed it before but each of these havlocks are diferentl lengths. They very from 5 inches-7 1/2inches- 6 inches- and 4 inches. Just something I noticed that I thought was interesting to note.

Neat! The unit ID kanji seems a bit unusual in that the "9th Artillery" is followed by a much smaller unit than is usually seen. More often than not it seems like units are followed by sub units within two steps: Regiments to companies, Battalions to platoons, etc. It is too bad there are not a few more unit identifying kanji written. From what is written, I am wondering if it is not already a smaller unit in general. Maybe the cap was used by a member of the 9th Medium Artillery Battalion which was stationed in Burma. Very cool!

Thanks Tom . Hope everything is well your way.
That's a very good point you point out. That could be the case that it was part of a smaller group already .

Any idea what type if artillery pieces the 9th medium artillery used ?
