    Translation Help needed on Flag.

    Hey Guys,
I got this flag this afternoon and I was just wondering what was written on it. Of course there was the normal "this flag was on Iwo Jima" smoke and mirrors. I got a friend of mine's wife to read it, but she hasn't studied it since high school and she's not exactly sure what it says. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a small stamping and then some smaller writing as well (pictured) that I was wondering what they meant as well. Thanks for all your help in advance.

Here is the small stamping with "intelligence" stamped on the bottom. I'm assuming this was the stamp that could've been used to say it was ok to bring home?

Here is hopefully a better picture of the small writing on the side of the flag.

Forum member Nick and Papa can do better job than me. For the time being, I can do limited translation as follows:
1.name of the person got this banner
        2.Mr.
        3.Gifted from
        4.name of that company
        5.western good
        6.shop
        7. 4 japanese name

        Can't see the stamp clearly.

Well that's a start! I'm hopin that the other two members mentioned will chime in. I've always wanted one of these, but just never really had an opportunity. This came along and I said why not.

Tamakiya Imported Western Goods Store presented this to a Seiji Hara. There is nothing else of interest on the flag.

The large kanji slogans often found across the top can usually be seen with their translations here...

pardon my ignorance as I have just recently branched over to the Japanese side of collecting but what is the significance of Tamakiya Imported Western Good Store presenting this to a Seiji Hara and what is a Seiji Hara?

It's like your neighborhood drug store presenting you with a good luck charm when you have to go to war. Seiji is the first name, Hara the family name.

Sometimes its a bit hard to see, as some people write with a Very stylized form. Yours is pretty common writing style.

AS Papa Nambu points out, this is the symbol "Ki" which means to pray. It is often found before the other 4 symbols," Buun ChouKyuu" , or everlasting fortune in battle. Also, keep in mind, Nick stated in his translations thread that the translations he provided are written Backwards from WW2 era Japanese.

Nick K: "I am writing the Japanese solgans from left to right in the modern manner, but when written on wartime flags, the Kanji were written right to left, so they will appear reversed from this listing or vertically from top down."
