    Japanese 1931 tunic, Kempeitai?

    Gentlemen!

I'm new to this forum and this is my first post. Firstly I'd like to express my admiration for forum. It is gorgeous. I've gound it a cuple of days ago and now I can't stop reading it!

I've been a collector for long time by now, but third reich awards have never been in my primal focus. I have a few of them thou and I'm starting to like them.

A different thing now. I have this tunic for years, but I do not knom much about it.

    It is a model 1931?
Dark green collar... is that kempeitai or something else?

I've added the ranks and they didn't came with the tunic. Are they correct for this tunic?

Is that an officer tuinic or private?

    Thank you for your help!

    Best regards,

    Matej

This is a Type 5 Cotton Enlisted Tunic used during the 1930's. The green would indicated Medical and not Kempeitai. Rank insignia is correct for this type of uniform.

        Welcome to the forum

            Welcome to the Forum!!
Nice one!! Your tunic is a Type 5 tunic and the shoulder rank is for a corporal (Go-cho) and look right for the tunic. The dark green collar tabs is for medical , Kempai Tai would have been black. Hope this helps.

              Hi Matej,
Late as David and gunto beat me to it.... The difference between enlisted and officer tunic, officer's had lower hip pockets. Here's my officer's Type 5 (shoulder boards are in the pocket) with the same medical dark green collar tabs.

Thanks David!, they (officer’s & enlisted men wool tunic) are a lot more smart looking then the Type 98 tunics.
                  Aloha,
                  Rodney

HI your type 5 tunic is not issue as I can see no stamps and it has the white collar studs. It might be for a retired cavalryman / Medic who is a member or the soldiers league.

Hmmmmm, the problem here is that the tunic has officer collar flashes and enlisted shoulder boards.

That’s true. It's not officers though; it points more to it being a private purchase tunic for a retired soldier hence the better quality flashes with the other points I mentioned. Does it have the belt loop?
