It would be special if I knew what was written on this flag. If anyone can translate it for me it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Darn, that isn't very exciting....
Thanks anyway!
It does support it's authenticity however. The flag was brought home by a 1st Division US Marine who was wounded on Okinawa and did post-War occupation duty in North China. I think he probably bought it in China. He also escorted Japanese POW's from China back to Japan so he could have bought it in Japan as a souvenir. We'll never know for sure, but if it was a fake there would not be "one of the dumbest things I've ever seen written on a flag" written on it, but a more appropriate/relative phrase to make it more marketable. That's my thoughts.Last edited by ob'98; 05-18-2012, 04:47 PM.

Yes, I agree that it was not something made to fool collectors, but born of honest intentions. It looks as if it's written by a Japanese and I was puzzled why a native would write such a dumb thing, which also made me consider the Chinese angle. However, the scenario that Papa suggests is the most likely. You wouldn't feel safe writing war slogans in front of a GI, so under such circumstances that was a totally neutral solution to an embarrassing situation and with enough Kanji to please.
