This flag was captured on the island of Gudalcanal shortly after US forces invaded the island on 7 August 1942. This came from the estate of Alfred T. Atkinson of Kensington, Maryland (future research project). The flag is signed by the following Imperial Japanese Naval "Gijutsu" (Engineering Officers): Capt. Yamamoto (commanding); Lt. Cmdr. Hiwada; Lt. Arizumi; Lt. Nakamura; Lt. (JG) Inoue, and Ensign Yamada, among others. It is also signed bt several Chief Mechanics. These IJN Officers were most likely in charge of the Korean construction crews working on the airfield. The flag has received several shrapnel / bullet holes, which I feel were most liklely made by .45 bullets, in a pretty tight grouping. If anyone can add anything please do. Thanks-
