    What kind of sword?

A friend at work said he has a Japanese Samari sword. He brought it in & I was expecting a Japanese sword that I am used to seeing but I have no idea what this is. I took the pics real quick on my lunch break & a few are not that clear but I think you can get the idea. If anyone has any idea, please let me know. I would appreciate it.

Not Japanese. Looks like something from SE Asia. Philippines, Borneo, Indonesia or somewhere around there.

                What kind of sword?

Thank you for all your quick replies. The sword was a bring back. My friend said it was from a WW1 veteran obtained from the vet's widow in the 1960's while cleaning out her garage. My thoughts on it were that maybe it was a WW2 veteran & my friend got the story wrong because it looks like one of the swords that might have been put together by the Phillipinos for the returning veterans.

                Thanks again,
