    NCO sword

my nco sword. The scabbard retains its leather cover just about, the knot was originally blue and has lost a tassel. The platted green cord has always been with this sword and some one suggested it may be american parashute cord.John

Thanks for sharing. You don't see combat covers on NCO scabbards too much. Are there any clear Manuf./inspection stamps on the metal band between the sword guard and grip?
      Thanks.

The right type of tassel for the sword is made of leather.

Its a Navy guy in the photo. The sword You got is for Army NCO.

Hi Tom.,The markings are the Kokura arsenal, what looks like a small triangle and the makers mark(from Gunto sword site)Iijima Token Seisakusho? if I have spelled it right.
The knot has been on there a long time, could it be an nco who has been promoted to officer and kept his old sword? or more likely added by the vet; who brought it home,I know the photo is naval,I thought at one time it was used by a japanese marine.Anyway many thanks gents for the information.John

Isn't that tip in the picture different from an NCO sword also?

                Hello,
NCO is even nicer when leather covered.
But unfortunatly the picture represent a well known photo of Nanking, must be a repro of one kind, propaganda, hard to tell. Do you have any clue on the back?

                Best regards,
                Mathieu.

                  Yes, it's a different sword.

The sword in the photo is a Chinese dao or dadao type.

Sorry to say but your sword and your photo are in no way connected. The photo is a reprint of a semi-famous photo. That photo is one of the "Nanjing Massacre" proof photos that has been used to prove Japanese atrocities. Some have argued that the photo is not Japanese, but actually Chinese set up possibly as propaganda. I'm not denying the massacre, but some of the photos like these used as proof are questionably Japanese.
