my nco sword.The scabbard retains its leather cover just about,the knot was originally blue and has lost a tassel.The platted green cord has always been with this sword and some one suggested it may be american parashute cord.John

The knot has been on there a long time,could it be an nco who has been promoted to officer and kept his old sword? or more likely added by the vet; who brought it home,I know the photo is naval,I thought at one time it was used by a japanese marine.Anyway many thanks gents for the information.John

Sorry to say but your sword and your photo are in no way connected. The photo is a reprint of a semi-famous photo. That photo is one of the "Nanjing Massacre" proof photos that has been used to prove Japanese atrocities. Some have argued that the photo is not Japanese, but actually Chinese set up possibly as propaganda. I'm not denying the massacre, but some of the photos like these used as proof are questionably Japanese.
