        Ebay IJN helmet

Based on the myriads of these that I own (not!) I'm gonna' guess and say that the paint on the helmet and the insignia (olive vs. brown) don't match in color. The insignia appears to be fake actually and the rivets appear to be army, telling me that the helmet is probably a "doctored" army version. mikeb

Yea, the badge is bad. I would also go as far as saying this is possibly a repainted shell. Something about the liner does not look right. The pics are bad but I would pass on this one.

ah, good info for us non-helmet collectors. I'm guessing we'll see more of these during the year with "The Pacific" coming out. That liner looked ok to my untrained eye, but I didn't even think about the helmet paint color or the rivits being army vs navy.

I think would be great to have a sticky on characteristics of army / navy helmets for novices, as there may be an up tick in traffic here due to the mini-series. I hope the moderator would be willing to sticky such a thread if someone took the time to write it up.

The liner just has a weird look to it. I cannot tell if it is an out right reproduction from the pics. The badge is a reproduction for sure. Flat rivets on an IJN or IJA helmet is acceptable. The domed type rivets were only used on earlier IJA examples imo. As we have talked about before. There have been many very informative threads posted here. People have commented on them and asked for them to be pinned. This is never done and they are lost. Why should we bother anymore?

I agree with Scott. Only the moderators can pin the subject for a sticky. The differences between army & navy helmets have been posted many times before. Scott has a very keen eye & has come up with a few additional, tell tale details regarding differences of army/navy liners.
