Here's a set of early goggles, which have been presented to me as flight goggles. I've always been told that the main way to differentiate between the tanker and flight goggles has been to look at the strap. The early flight goggles had thick straps similar to the normal cat-eye goggles of ww2. The tanker goggles had a thinner strap. if one looks closely to old pictures of aviators wearing this strap, it is clear that the straps are thick.
these goggles have a thin strap, although the color is the same maroon seen on normal goggles.
I will post 2 examples of early goggles I have later on, as well as a tanker set of goggles for comparison.
again, this is what I've always known as correct, although I've also been wrong in the past.
kind of an important question of mine, since I've thought less of the person who was offering them to me when he stated they were pilot goggles...
