japanese hat?

just bought this from the old ebay, looked interesting and cheap so being aa addict bought it, apparently brought back by a british vet from ww2 as a japanese hat,,,it looks to me something out of the 300 persian army any info appreciated cheers dave

Certainly does not look like anything Japanese. It appears to be south east asian, just what for I would not know.

If it's even Japanese, it's not military. More likely native/peasant/farmer etc.

Nope, not Japanese. Doesn't even look like a farmers straw hat, since it does not have any brim to shade the head.
