    4. I thought the copper habaki was a good sign. The tsuba is copper and is really nice imo. The blade I will leave up to the experts. The menuki I thought was a family one.
    Thanks, Scott

Feudal Lords Would Order Swords For Their Samurai In Quantity. These Swords Were Seldom Signed. Without Handling Your Blade, It Is Difficult To Tell You More. The Initial Indication From The Shape And The Color Of The Steel(from The Pics)would Be A Mass Produced Blade Of The 17th Century. The Menuki Are Family Mon. They Are The Mon Of The Tokugawa Family, The Ruling Shogunate In Japan Until The Meiji Restoration. Most Likely, This Sword Belonged To A Lower Ranking Samurai Who Served The Tokugawa Family. That Is Of Course That They Began Life With The Blade. Do You Have The Fuchigashira Set- The Top And Bottom Handle Fittings?

Thanks for the info Bob. I do not have the fuchi set. They say it will turn up and that they do have it. I hope it does. I really like it. I may try to find a set in the mean time. Do you know of anybody who can re-wrap the handle?
        Thanks, Scott

Scott, I don't know if you are interested, but there is a guy in my city (Portland, Oregon) named Fred Lohman who does sword restoration. I believe he has a web site. I've never met the guy, but from people I've talked to, it sounds like he knows his stuff.

Do you have any contact info for him Andy? Bob C put me in contact with another restorer but I will check all options.
                Thanks, Scott
