    cap and havelock on ebay

This seller is close to the "stampman" he won't post a photo of the stamp on that havelock. It's an original small cap with a nakata havelock in the lower photo if you peek between the cap and havelock you can see the nakata symbol just a heads up

I asked him if havelock was ink stamped. Said it was & you can just barely see mark in one photo. Sure enough the Nakata symbol. I email him & tell him & off course he gets snippy. Says value is in the hat, not the neck flaps!

The havelock is indeed Nakata. For those who don't know: Tadao Nakata authored what was/is considered to be the standard reference on Japanese uniforms and equipment for many years (first printing was 1971). Nakata produced a whole host of reproductions and offered a catalog at least as far back as the early 90's, featuring items that had the Nakata firm trade mark. This havelock/ neckflap is not original and anything bearing that mark is a reproduction. Here is the "Nakata stamp" for future reference: Zach

Zach thanks for posting Nakatas logo/stamp. He has made some very accurate repros some of which are forced aged, logo sometimes obscured & sold as originals! Buyer beware!

In the case of this havelock, one brief look told me it was bad. These repros have been around for years and are not one of Nakata's best. Material and hooks are wrong.
Original havelocks are among the greatest rarities of all Japanese militaria.
