Oh damm, I forgot to empty them! Those bottles are what I keep my ganj in ! No seriously the first is sand from Iwo Jima and the third is soil from Shuri castle Okinawa. Both were picked up shortly after the fighting. The amber glass bottles have kanji on them. Man Josh back when I was in high school it looked a bit different then that? What are they giving you up there ?
                  Thanks, Scott

Nowadays it looks like really dried and shriveled up brocholli.
I was kidding about the pot part

Seriously, I think these are very interesting pieces, especially the iwo sand. Can you take some out and post a pic of it?

Here you go Josh. I "broke it up" for you . This has been a funny thread. It has some of the black sand, some coral pebbles, and rock particles. He said it came from around the base of Surabachi/green beach sector. This may explain the mix of different things. That area was also pretty churned up from the fire it was taking. He was a rear echelon Marine. He just gave this stuff to me. Said he wanted them to go to somebody who would look after them. I am the new keeper for now.
                          Thanks, Scott

Cool, I wonder how much sand was taken from iwo by marines. Probably enough to build a second iwo.
