    NVA Painted Pith Helmet Opinions

    Hello All,

I know that these are a minefield. I was wondering if this had any chance of being period done and not just a modern paint job. Thank you!

I've never seen a painted one in a period photo, and I've never seen a painted one I've liked. My feeling is that it probably wasn't done, but I could be wrong.

Thanks Peter, I apreciate your input. I figured it probably was just made as a souvenir or something for tourist after the war.

I gather from people who have been there in recent years that there is a thriving industry in war souvenirs in both Saigon and Hanoi and no bets as to what [probably very small] percentage of them are originals.

I don't know if there were ever any real ones with that paint job but they are very common on eBay theses days.
