    Bronze Plaque - Any Ideas?

    Good day Folks

Can anyone identify this. It seems to have some Arabic writing on the crescent above the military standards.

It measures 35 X 28cms and is bronze. It has obviously been screwed to something.

    Many thanks

    James

    Hi,

it's an Ottoman artillery piece plaque, end of 19th century to early post WW1. If you identify the tughra, you have the Sultan's name! Quite a nice piece!

      Hi Giorgos

Thanks so much for the information. That is absolutely brilliant. I will get close-ups of the turgha and post later.

      Any Ottoman specialists out there??

      Many thanks

            Hi again!

You could have a look at the tughras of Abdul Hamid II and Mehmed V. Their reign covers this period and their tughras are similar. I can't see the differences very clearly on your photo, but since you have the plaque at hand, you may be able to spot them!
