A French Cavalry Uniform?

I'm hoping that someone can assist me on this one.

I believe that it is French cavalry, but as to the unit or date I have no idea.

Dragoon? Lancer?

Chasseur a Cheval?

Franco Prussian War? World War I? 1920's?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

The buttons could give some clue, indeed!

It's way out of my collecting field, but I would risk and say that my feeling tells me it could be of American origin. The US Army did use green jackets like these during the 1840s and 1850s, didn't they? And I think that some Dress uniforms did follow the pattern into the early 20th century. Maybe the US militaria section could be of help, too?

Could it also be some South American country?

That being said, can we exclude the movie prop possibility?

Wish I could offer some more info...

Thanks for the comments. There are no interior markings. The buttons on the trousers are marked Paris.

Handsome uniform. The epaulettes are reminiscent of Sachsen patterns found on Ulan regiment jackets. What stands out to me is the brightness of the yellow. It seems very fresh for an older style uniform. I have an 1890s Ulan jacket with yellow piping with the hat to match and the yellow has turned ivory from age. One would think the original color was white.

I just watched the 1945 German film, Kolberg, to see if a similar uniform appears. It does not but it could still be a 1920's or later film or theater costume. Or, as pointed out, something a bit more obscure.

Can you post shots of the interior and the fastening of the front? Does the collar have hook and eye closures? Also, are the epaulettes stamped out in one piece or constructed of individual plates?

The uniform has definite age.

The collar and the front of the jacket have hook and eye closures. The jacket closes down the center, through the "bib" on the front of the jacket.

The epaulettes have separate metal plates that overlap; they are not a single piece of metal that was stamped out to look like separate plates.

Got it! It's a Centennial Uniform circa 1912 for the Wurttemberg Mounted Rifle Regiment Duke Louis (Chasseurs a Cheval Duc Louis). Here's an image as well as one showing the Centennial version of the helmet.

Well, that certainly looks like the uniform!

In my initial post I wondered whether it might be the uniform of a Chasseur a Cheval; I just had the wrong country!
