    Old Antique 1500s style sword

    Old Antique 1500s style sword

19th century copy or real around 16thC sword.

Sadly it received a little bit of water damage and have got some recent
rust spots. I hope someone might date and ID this type of sword and the possible value.

    Thanks
    Nicolai

              Hello,

your sword can be dated to that period of 19th century, called "historicism".

The piece looks very well-made although some un-proportion reveals the piece for not being from the early Renaissance. The pommel (cast iron?) shows a crack, happened while hammering the tang's finial on a re-mount of the sword's parts, probably after an early cleaning; the spirally moulded, wooden grip with its leather sleeve, is not consistent to 16th Century's typologies; the crossguard, with downwardly curved quillons, reveals a good taste, by the maker, giving to the weapon a fine appearance.
Also the blade with its fullers, although out-of-style, is well-made.

I consider your piece as very decorative, worth of an accurate cleaning, although not being either rare or precious.

              Best wishes,

              E.L.

                Yep Agree.

Most likely a match with you breast-plate.

                A nice wall hanger

It is the 19c equivalent of this

                  Thanks

                  Thanks

19th century historicism also my thoughts.
But needed confirming, I do not know much about
old swords. Actually happy it's not 500 hundred years old
then the water damage would have been more of a disaster!

The sword I have been in my collection for many years.
The armor I bought recent. But yes they look good together!

                  Thanks
                  Nicolai

This is what I would call "In the style of" because it's made to look what you think would be period but actually isn't. If you tried fighting with that you would lose quickly. XD These pieces always look amazing next to Victorian Armour though! Good find!
