It’s French and obviously commemorates the Great War as the dates either side of the
French soldier say 2 Aout 1914 and <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:date Month="11" Day="11" Year="1918">11 Nov 1918</st1:date>.
