    French made US DSC WWI

Another lucky find. This baby was one of my favorites. This is a first style French made Distinguished Service Cross- Army medal.
Look at the detail. I think this one is much prettier than the US period made medal.

Gary, I love these as well! Looks like a replaced ribbon and pin however. I will be trying to get one of these very soon!

      Hello Sparky,
You're right about the ribbon, it looks too good to be almost 100 years old. The pin was unusual also, I had never seen one with a sewn on pin. Each corner was sewn with red thread to the red area on the very thick and stiff ribbon. The back plate of the pin attachment is also thicker than US styles. This one is different indeed.

What US medals do you have? Is there any you care to post?
Anything of mine you might want to see?

        Hey,

I would really like to see the DSC. Can you repost it as I think the images are now gone. At least I cannot see them.

          Charles,
Give me some time. I'll look for the floppy and post it when I find it. I have since sold the medal so I can't take another a picture.

                Thanks Jeremiah,
I just purchase what looks good to me, then I research it as best I can. I wish I hadn't let this one go, but another collector wanted it more than I did because he paid what I wanted for it. she was a beauty, and I haven't seen another one since! Go figure, huh?

I look forward to seeing you and the others this weekend!

                Gary

A very beautiful cross you have there! I have one of these old type USMC Good Conduct Medals too (with serial number) and an old wrap-brooch WWI Victory Medal. They were better manufactured as the modern US medals and the material like the goldbronze of the WWI Victory Medal was better too.

Beautiful! Thanks for posting them, Jens. Always check the rim on WWI US victory medals. The first 100 were numbered by the mint and very few are accounted for. If you find one of these, the US collectors will pay the bucks, it's a very sought after medal!

The detail on the USMC medal is so much crisper than those stamped today. Very nice, medals.

Thats why I only collect the old US medals now. The new ones are so bad manufactured. I have a WWII made Bronze Star with wonderful shaped and smooth rays of the star and I have a new one with so sharp edges that you can cut your fingers with. The same with a Silver Star. Some are made like crap.
