          Not a lot of help I know.

          Hi Robert, all I can tell you is that they are French, but I guess you already know that.

          Cheers, Ade.

            french commando marine

            hello
            they are insignas of french commando marine. these insignas are in the left side of the green beret.these commandos are created during the ww2 in england, they landed in d-day in sword beach (177 free french commando).
            their chief called Commandant KIEFFER. CHAUVET is the type of manufacture.
            actually there are 6 commando groups (their name are HUBERT , TREPEL, JAUBERT, FRANCOIS, MONFORT, DE PENFETENYO). they are included in french special forces (special operation command)

              Thanks, Fallshirm! Are the WWII manufacture, or do the current ones also have the 1943 date? s/f Robert

                  Hi,
                  the one of the left is from the 50's, the one on the right is a modern one.
                  They are still in use with the marking "1943" but it depends of the makers.
                  Two pictures of one modern one with "1943 Chauvet marking" and one WWII era (look at the "marking" it's not "commando marine" on WWII insignia but 1******176; Bn F M Commando = 1******176; Battaillon de Fusiller Marins Commando )
                  Hope it helps
                  Herl******233;

                    Herle, thanks very much - so these are both post-war devices. I like the style, though - they are nice looking badges!
