Häm RJP badge

Superb collection Hans !

I'm a bit curious about the Häme RJP badge ; I have a few photos of Finnish cavalrymen and have only seen the regiment symbol on the shoulder board :

this shoulder badge btw is my only Finnish badge ; well actually it is my only badge at all - I'm really into photos !

Would you have any more information about this badge of yours ? When was it created / who was entitled to wear it ?

my understanding was that the 1921 two cavalry units were called :
- Uudenmaan rakuunarykmentti
- Hämeen ratsurykmentti

The translations I found are :
- rakuunarykmentti : dragonbataljon
- ratsurykmentti : hästjägarbataljon (we would say "Chasseurs a Cheval in French ; I even found some references to Häme cavalry as "Hussars")

Was there a change in their names along the way ? Or are my references somehow wrong ?
And by the way, would you be so kind as to clarify for me the rank of the man on that photo ? My best guess so far would be that he is a second lieutenant, but I say so with little conviction and many doubts.

And if anybody has any clue as for the origin of that moose head symbol, I am also curious about that !

Your photo of the finnish dragoon is picturing a m/1918 uniform for a Lance-Corporal and the badge on his chest is a shooters´badge 1921 pattern. This type of badge was withdrawn already in 1922 because a new rifleman´s class badge was issued. So this means that your photo have with certainty been taken in 1921-22.

I am afraid that i don´t have that mutch information regarding the badge, my particular badge are for "varusmies" as they are called in finnish, can´t at the moment come up with the proper english translation for it.

@Greg, well so far i haven´t found any information regarding the Kev.Os.4 badge, the only thing i know is that it´s a unitbadge. I am not even shure if they where awarded or if they where possible to obtain privatly.

Something makes me think that the Kev.Os.4 and KTR4 badges are/where not official badges because of the list on the link below that represents the official badges for different units in the finnish armed forces from the 1920´s to present day.

Hans,

You are right, KevOs 4 -badge is unofficial unitbadge. It is made for those who served in kevOs 4 in Winter War and it is one of the earlist (and the finest!) finnish ww2 unit badges. The badge exists in two different sizes.

Is it given or had one to get it himself? I don't know.

H******228;mRjP badge is the oldiest unit badges of the Finnish Army (still in use). It is established in 1920******180;s.

There are two different types of this badge:
- enamaled for cadres
- metal colour, not enamaled for conscripts

And moose head symbol: it is the symbol of the patron saint of cavalry, Saint Hubertus.
