Fantastic helmet, Owen! The overall grouping is great, too. Congratulations on obtaining this lot, and thanks for sharing with us!

Great group, I've never even heard of tiger'd up flight helmets. Thanks for sharing!

The SF units you mention, and the others, never had any pilots who were actual SF guys.
No slots or jobs for them in group.
Other units, like 160th aviation supplied them in support roles.
B36 was 3 corps Mike Force. They worked extensively in the general AO of my camp. Never had their own choppers.
10th was in Germany in those days.
1st was on Okinawa and provided a lot of TDY guys in the early days.
LLDB were the ARVN Special Forces who we sometimes worked along side of when they were not hiding. We had to wear their unit patch.
Recondo was a school at Nha Trang run by 5th SFG to train recon guys from other units.
He likely flew support for that school.
There were guys other than aviation who got those logbook thingies. I never saw one, but some guys recorded everything. Enough hours and you could get an Air Medal if you could get somebody to sign off on your records.
Jumpers use similar logbooks, military and civilian.
I have a good friend who was an officer in the 173rd, then went through the SFOC course at Ft Bragg and commanded an A Team in Vietnam. He then went to flight school and returned to fly Cobras.

Some units handed those out routinely to some infantrymen due to the large number of CAs they made.

Of course you have every right to your opinion; thanks to veterans like you this is still a free country. However, I have no clue what your point is.

Major Ritchie's 15+ year Special Forces career is well documented, including all of the assignments Owen mentioned.

Also, nowhere in this thread did anyone state he was a pilot. There are no pilot's wings on his Class-A, which I'm sure Owen has already seen (as a number of us have).

This is a very neat grouping to a fascinating man-- let's not start throwing mud for no reason.
