Clever and Nasty Viet Cong Booby Trap 1st Cavalry 1965 Souvenir

Clever and Nasty Viet Cong Booby Trap 1st Cavalry 1965 Souvenir...Two bullets mounted in a 2x4 (cut down to present size by the NCO who found it)...a large animal trap attached to the board that when sprung strikes two nails which act as firing pins and strike the shell primers...interesting wood insert safety device that slides in/out...NCO said this was staked along a trail and one of his Montagnards set the trap off and was shot.

My dad was a 3rd Marine div vet and oh the stories he told about these and other traps. I don't see how this would be a very effective weapon though. It seems that with 2 rounds going off it would blow back the spring and the punching power would hardly make a scratch. Of course I know I am wrong because these worked but they defy physics. My dad said a FAO with them tripped two at the same time and was killed. One hit him in the throat and severed his jugular. SO I know these primitive devices worked and still work today.

The VC who built this had done it before.
