Interesting. Of course, you must read between the lines with such a document.

I do share your opinion, Alex. Many ex POW flew to the USA, France, Canada, Australia (...) at the first opportunity.

In this report, the guys are from 2nd Lt to Cpt. They were kept in the South. Higher ranks were systematically sent to the North.

Surrender = No Bloodbath + Starving + Brainwashing Concentrate Camps
Starving = People Fighting Each Other For Food
Starving + Brainwashing = People feel guilty about their past
And one more thing about the Communist as President Thieu said "Never trust what the communist said, but let's see what the communist have done..."

My Year 8 math teacher was a LTCOL in the ARVN 9th Div.
He had many stories about the war, the surrender and re-education.

As a battalion commander was immediatly sent north, to a camp right near the border with china. He managed to escape sometime circa 1979/80.

He trekked overland and eventually made his way to the US Embassy in Singapore. During his debreif he was asked where he wanted to go and he said Australia.

                    There was a big bloodbath.
Not widely reported, but happened just the same.

Re education was not considered for many.

There was cruelty on both sides, but the commies hold the record by far.
