Who was the best photographer in Vietnam

I have just finished reading Page after Page this morning .
It got me thinking who took the best photographs in Vietnam during the second war .
We all have out favourite picture and was wondering which shot encompassed the war for you?
For me Tim Page was a cheeky drug taking rascal who was in the right time and place to hit some stunning images of the war from the crying girl who just landed on the carrier at the end to the popped smoke with the 79 launch tube .
Any thoughts ?

Joe Galloway is good as a combat cameraman. There are some good North Vietnamese photographers and combat artists.

Simon, you can sometime catch Tim Page in Saigon. He is often travelling in Vietnam. I think he mostly lives in Thailand.

IMO Burrows is the best. I really like the way he could catch a specific moment and how he dealt with the colors.

There were two Japanese photographers that shot amazing images during Vietnam. One was killed in Cambodia. There are also two books published on their work, that sometimes pop up in used book shops in Japan. One of them shot the most amazing images of Tet.

I like the portraits by Don McCullin, especially the haunted Marine taken during the fighting in Hue.

Richard Avedon took a few studio photos in Saigon during the war; none of them have become iconic, but they really show the souls of his models, and capture something special that I have never found in the work of other photographers.

How is the old dog! I've meet him a few times here in the UK at various show's and events. He's a fantastic bloke, real genuine guy, his heart and mind is still firmly living the Vietnam experience!

to me the greatest vietnam photogapher was philip jones griffith take a look at his book VIETNAM INC and you will see how it realy was in wartime vietnam

i also agree that tim page was also one of the geatest have read all his books and there is a dvd in the uk on him called FANKIE'S HOUSE straring ian glen as tim page

Patrick-Thanks I will have to take a look at that later.
One of the photographers name is Akihiko Okamura and he did a photo book titled THIS IS WAR IN VIETNAM. The photos are killer, esp. of camo and early MAAG Vietnam uniforms.
The other book is titled VIETNAM WAR THROUGH A PHOTOGRAPHER'S EYES, and was done by Bunyo Ishikawa. This is the Grand Daddy of them. He traveled in the North & Soth and shot amazing photos. During Tet he shot a photo of a NPFF officer wearing a grey shirt and monster pattern camo trousers, that we posted in another thread. Also some very dramatic photos of the ARVN Ranger massacre towards the end of the war. I searched for this book for close to ten years, on every trip to Japan, until I found one priced semi-realistic. It is one of the few books I won't loan out of my Library.

Oh yeah! I remember 'Frankie's House' wow thats a blast from the past, it was on ITV I think. Did it only last one season?
