    Peter Jackson's WWI Movie

    Hi Guys,

Definitely worth checking out. Great scene with two Brit soldiers wearing a pickelhaube and Stahlhelm.

That looks amazing - I’ll definitely be watching it when released on the 16th. Thanks for sharing the link.

    Regards,

Gutted that I missed the "one night only" showing on the 16th at local Cinemas; missed out in the 3-D elements taht are supposed to be very realistic.

Excellent, can't wait to see this but I wish Peter Jackson would make the Damnbusters movie he's been promising for years!

Hopefully soon. I've read the one night release went above and beyond expectations of box office earnings, which has them considering another release, an international, but still limited, release. The BBC is also playing it on November 11th too.

I don't understand the point of going to all that time, effort and expense to restore that footage, making a big publicity deal out of it in the media, and then showing it only once on one day to a few people in one country.

Jackson is a WW1 collector. The lord of the ring novels, though not written by Jackson, are based on the actual writers' (Tolkein) experiences in the first world war, but with a mythical twist. So it would make sense that Jackson would make a movie based on the books. Jackson's own interest in the period probably drove the production and effort put into the film. I've also read it was supposed to be about 30 min in length, but became 90 min after the project took hold to everyone involved. I've also not seen much in the media about it, I heard of it from word of mouth or YouTube. I'm not kn the UK though, they probably got most of the media coverage

                      Hi,
The film was commissioned as part of the centenary projects by the Imperial War Musuem, here in the UK. It also deals with the War from the standpoint of British soldiers, hence the UK screenings. As stated here interest was far greater than expected; screenings were sold out and a few more showings are planned due to public demand. I'm sure in time it may become more widely available. I was able to see it on the big screen, and sadly you are missing out..

I’ve seen it and it was very impressive. Although there is a focus on the smoother, colour footage, the voiceovers by the actual veterans is equally memorable. These were recorded by the IWM some years ago and made available to Peter Jackson. One veteran relates how he shot a horribly injured colleague and it was clear that the memory was still devastating, despite the passing of many years.

                        Well worth seeing.

I think we’re all hoping for that day. He’s been heavily committed to other movie projects by contractual obligations to some of the big studios. As a result, Dambusters is on the back burner. There’s certainly been a major investment in this project though. They have already built between 6 & 10 (depending on who you speak to) full scale Lancaster’s for static use only. I doubt you’d go to that extent & investment if the movie wasn’t going to happen at some point in the future.

I just watched the film online. It's available on a number of free websites.

Here's a link. It's a bit tricky because there are pop-ups etc. But, once you get it playing, it streams nicely in HD. There are lots of choices of links on this website. The one below worked well for me.
