    Prussian Officers' Pickelhaube for review/valuation

I would like to know what a sensible asking price would be for this pickelhaube please as I intend to put it on the estand. It came as part of a trade ten years ago on the WAF.

I would also like to know what it is so that I can describe it correctly - I have always assumed it to be a Prussian Infantry Officers' helm but do not know for sure.

It is all complete and pretty 'tight' but the peak is about 80-90% detached, and the brass strip at the edge of the peak is also loose. However, this being said it 'displays well' and has sat on display in my cabinet for the last decade and looks fine.

I do not know whether these can be 'tidied' up in any way.

    Many thanks

          It is an Infantry Officer.

Actually it is a Train Batallion Officer's Helmet. A little less common than a Prussian Line Infantry Officer Helmet. Train Batallions number 2 through 10 wore it, as did Batallions 15, 16, 17, 20 & 21.

Your helmet has Curved or Arched shaped chinscales that the Prussian Infantry did not wear. Train Batallion and mounted troops wore curved or arched shaped chinscales.

I'll send you a private message giving you an estimated value in today's market.

            Best Regards,

            Alan

Any idea as to value? It came as part trade ten years ago so I have no reference point. The web seemingly draws a blank...
