    Miniture helmet

    Hello.

usually i collect daggers but i am diversifying as i have started to sell my collection.

this came my way and i think it is really cool. I may bring it to the SOS if it is of any interest.

i took the pictures in poor light but you get the general idea.

Nice miniature...wonder if it was for a doll....? workmanship shows attention to detail....salesman sample ? (did they ever have salesman samples ?) its "jimmy" size. hahaha. super find , and likely could bring almost as much as a full size to the right collector.....never seen one this size myself, was there a story where it was found ? (estate, show, private , or ? , or did it just cross your path?) . I always like to hear where some items are turning up from. Anybody else have a similar one ? Very cool.

        thanks for the reply.

It was in a collection In Norfolk UK. I took it as an exchange. The original owner has had it a long time and he has no idea where it came from.

He looked into it and did not think it was a salesman piece because of the number of variations. He thought that it would have been made as a gift for someone high up in the military maybe as a desk ornament. A lot of fine workmanship has gone into its making and i am of the opinion more than one skilled person was involved.

If anyone has any other ideas please post them. It will be at the SOS.

          Hello,

I am not trying to be snarky or rude in the following comments:

This helmet looks like a miniature of the current full-size modern fakes on eBay.uk. I for one do not think it is older than the 1980's era, maybe as old as the 1970's era. Certainly not made during the WW1 era.

The frontplate does not come anywhere near close to replicating that of a full size example. It looks similar to the current made full-size fakes from India.

The funky shape of the spike looks like the modern full-size funky shape spike fakes on eBay.uk. The liner looks like the full size counterpart fake ones that are also available on eBay.uk.

My guesstimate is that this was made by the same people who have made the full-size fake pickelhaubes in the past 25-35 years that are sold on eBay.uk on a regular basis.

I cannot believe for all the tea in China that this miniature helmet is any older than the mid 1970's era at best, and that it is probably a whole lot newer than that. Your friend has probably had it since the 1970's or maybe 1980's era, and acquired it second-hand, sometime shortly after it was made.

          All the Best,

          Alan

I also don't want to be rude at all, but I'm with Alan. When this would be given to a German officer, he would be seriously offended. A miniature of a reproduction it is ...

Great thanks, nothing worse than not knowing.

I took it in part exchange so i will be passing it back. I suspect the guy did not know it was a copy but he will now
